The Salida Hospital Board of Directors will remain term-limited after a ballot initative to remove those term limits failed by a 2-1 vote Tuesday.
Unofficially, 570 ballots were cast. either by mail or in person. Of those 570 ballots, 379 voted to retain term limits, while 191 voted "yes" to remove them. 284 ballots were cast at the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, 78 in Buena Vista, and 208 were received by mail.
The result is that the board will remain operating under term limits as they always have, meaning that members can serve two consecutive four year terms, but then must wait two terms, or eight years, before they can run again. The failure of the initative means that board chairman Dan Dowling and director Paul Poser will be term-limited out of their seats next year.
