Buena Vista send 18 Athletes to State



Congratulations to the Buena Vista Boys' and Girls' Track and Field Team for qualifying 18 athletes to the state meet this season. The following is a list of athletes and the events that they will be competing in at the state track and field meet at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

FIBArk Cruiser Crit is Saturday



 

The 11th annual FIBArk Cruiser Crit presented by Eddyline Brewing is set for Saturday afternoon in downtown Salida. Race participants are encouraged to wear their best costume and ride their cruiser bicycles on the streets and trails of Salida. Registration begins at 3 p.m. at Riverside Park and the event begins at 4 p.m. with a kids race, adult parade lap and then a three-lap race.

Riverside Park Closure for Tree Removal



The City of Salida will be closing Riverside Park from the bandshell west starting this Tuesday, May 14th. The portion of the park from the bandshell southeast (which includes the playground) will remain open. The City anticipates that the park will fully reopen by Memorial Day weekend.

CDOT Motorcycle Safety Campaign Begins



Motorcycle crashes killed 82 riders and passengers on Colorado’s roads last year and over two-thirds of those killed (69%) were not wearing a helmet, so the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is reminding riders they have a choice to wear gear to prevent deadly crashes.

Hospital Board Term Limits Will Remain



The Salida Hospital Board of Directors will remain term-limited after a ballot initative to remove those term limits failed by a 2-1 vote Tuesday.

Unofficially, 570 ballots were cast. either by mail or in person. Of those 570 ballots, 379 voted to retain term limits, while 191 voted "yes" to remove them. 284 ballots were cast at the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center,

Canine Companion Run Coming May 26


The Salida Dog Club presents Loyal Duke’s Canine Companion Run

Quiet Use Coalition Completes Project



Volunteers from the Quiet Use Coalition completed the first phase of a project that will improve conditions on City of Salida open space land this past Saturday, April 27.

The group spent the day installing educational structures and signs in two locations to help recreationists make the correct decisions when traveling on routes that pass through city property.

PaddleFest 2013 organizers, and Colorado Kayak Supply in Buena Vista, have partnered with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chaffee County to host their annual “Kick off to Summer” whitewater festival May 24-27th in Buena Vista.

Good news for sportsmen and anglers, Denver water has announced that they will not be draining Antero Reservior as previously announced.

Dog Parvo Virus Found in Poncha Springs



An outbreak of Parvo virus in the area has turned up at the Ark Valley humane society in Poncha Springs.

Ride the Rickies Grants Available



The Salida Chamber of Commerce is happy to announce that Ride the Rockies is coming to Salida again this summer.  The riders will arrive on June 13 and leave early the next morning on June 14.

State Championships in Wrestling



Two Chaffee County wrestlers brought home the gold from the state wrestling championship tournament, held February 21-23 at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Sackett Land Transfer Will Go To Vote



The Salida City Council voted unamiously to send the issue of the Sackett Street property transfer before the voters this November.

New BLM Rules for Salida and Howard Areas Begin 3/15



The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has recently issued new rules for public land users in the Salida and Howard areas.
