August 30. The Pick and Shovel Players will be performing the melodrama "He Promised Me Violets" every Monday and Thursday, July 1st through August 30th at the Buffalo Bar and Grill in Buena Vista. Tickets are $20 each.

 

August 31. Sene Africa performs in the Salida SteamPlant Theater starting at 7:30 pm with the River Tribe Drum and Dance Troupe providing the opening act. Sene Africa consists of Ibrahima Ba and Amadou Fall. www.salidasteamplant.com.

 

September 4. 13th Annual Tenderfoot Mountain Triathlon/Duathlon. Triathlon course consists of a 1000M (pool) swim, a 25 mile bike ride, and a 10k run. Duathletes compete in the bike, then the run courses of the triathlon. September 5. Kiwanis Kids' Tenderfoot Mountain Triathlon for youth ages 5-14, at the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center. Race starts at 10:00 am. Competitors are split up into 3 age groups; course length is dependent on age. Children must be able to swim one length of the pool without swim aids. September 9 – October 20. Salida ArtWorks Registy Members Juried Art Show at Paquette Gallery, Salida Steamplant. Join us for our Awards Reception on September 11th, 5 - 7 pm at the gallery. September 10-12. Independence Film Fest in Buena Vista and Leadville. The highest film festival in the world salutes movie stars with screenings, surprise guests and posthumous awards. September 11. AppleFest at the historic Turner Farm, West Main, Buena Vista. Step back in time to the turn of the 20th century. Tour five old buildings at the farm including the two story farm house. September 11. Historical reenactment about the lives of Madams in the late 1800's at the Buena Vista Heritage Museum on East Main. Learn what it was like to be a "soiled dove" in the late 1800's with the Madams of Central Colorado. Educational and historical, this presentation has adult content but is very tastefully done with no foul language. Tickets are $15, benefit BV Hertage and are available on their website. September 12. Buena Vista Canine Classic Frisbee Dog and Dog Agility competitions. All events at the soccer fields at Riverside Park at the east end of Main St., Buena Vista. September 12. Celebrate Life at McPhelemy Park, Buena Vista, from 1pm-4pm. This 9th annual celebration is the main fundraising activity in support of the Buena Vista Pregnancy Center. You can participate by walking, running, bicycling or revving up your motorcycle. Live music. September 18. Autumn Color Run in McPhelemy Park, Buena Vista, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We offer a one mile fun run, a 5K, a 10K and a HM. September 29. HRRMC Kids Health Fair for kids ages K-8 and their families from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Boys & Girls Club, St. Joseph Church Annex, Salida. Over 20 exhibits include a range of activities and information—from health screenings, a game show and bicycle rodeo to nutrition, healthcare assistance and recreation resources. October 2. Fireman’s Ball. The Buena Vista Fire Department will bring back the old Firemen’s Ball at American Legion, Buena Vista. Contact Buena Vista Chamber at (719) 395-6612.

 

October 2. Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center will have the Jewel Ball at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds in Poncha Springs. Proceeds from the ball will help support various programs and services for the hospital. Contact Cathy Berdon for more information at 530-2218.

 

October 8-10. Stage Left Theater Company presents "Rules of Enchantment" at the Salida SteamPlant Theater.

 

October 29. Trick or Treat Street. The local Rotary Club sponsors Merchant's Trick-or-Treat Street along the length of Buena Vista Main Street.

 

October 29. Goblin Gallop Kids fun run. Fun and Free 2km kids fun run at Longfellow School, Salida. Children in grades 1-4 try to catch the witch in this fun and free 2 km run/walk. November 6. Craft and Christmas Bazaar. Congregational United Church of Christ- 217 Crossman, Buena Vista. Old fashioned Christmas bazaar with handmade Christmas presents and decorations. Lunch and dinner served. Best place to eat in town that day. Call 719 395-2544 for information.

           

November 12 – 14. 6th Annual Dryland Mushing Races at Adventure Unlimited, Buena Vista. Mushers from around Colorado will be having a fun competition with their sled dogs on bikes, scooters, carts, and by foot. No snow, no problem! November 13. Two Turkey Relay at Riverside Park, Salida, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Come run the fun and unique Two Turkey Relay. November 26. Parade of Lights in Downtown Salida. Christmas opening and lighting of Christmas Mtn. USA. Parade starts at 6 pm. Hot Chocolate and cider served at Pueblo Bank and Trust. Many stores open for Holiday Shopping. Santa arrives at approx. 6:30 pm. Holiday Park opens following the lighting of Christmas Mtn.

 

November 26. SteamPlant Holiday Open House at the Salida SteamPlant Event Center from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Join the SteamPlant for an open house following the Parade of Lights in downtown Salida and the lighting of Christmas Mountain. Free hot chocolate, treats and music.
