In KSBV News--

Body Found In Arkansas River


     A body was found yesterday by rafters in the Arkansas River near Tunnel Drive.
     Positive identification has not been made.
     However, it is believed to be the body of a 23-year-old Kansas woman who jumped from the Royal Gorge Bridge last week.

Salida Mail Center To Close


     The U.S. Postal Service announced yesterday a modified, two-phase plan to consolidate 461 mail processing centers, and the Salida center will likely close by the summer of 2014.
     Consolidating will reduce the size of the Postal Service workforce by about 13,000 employees and, when fully implemented, will save about $1.2 billion annually.

G To Close


     Salida Public Works Department will close G street from First Street to Sackett Avenue starting Tuesday until further notice.
     The closure is to change the one-way section of street for two-way traffic.
 

It's Time For Greenup Cleanup


     Tomorrow is the 21st annual Arkansas Headwaters Cleanup/Greenup along the Arkansas River.  Registration is at 8:30 a.m. at the Buena Vista Community Center, the AHRA Visitor Center in Salida and the Sagebrush Store in Howard.
 

FIBArk Cruiser Crit Tomorrow


     The 10th annual FIBArk Cruiser Crit is also tomorrow with registration at the intersection of F Street and Sackett beginning at 3 p.m., costume parade at 4 p.m. and kids races at 4:30 p.m.

     Spartan freshman Morgaan Walters-Schaler qualified for the state finals in the 200-meter dash prelims yesterday at the State track and field championships in Lakewood.  Walters-Schaler will run the 200-meter 3A finals tomorrow.

Yerman Coming Back To Salida


     Buena Vista town planner Michael Yerman told the BV board of trustees that he has received a job offer from the City of Salida for the position of community development director and that he would be taking the position.

The Gov Is Coming To Town


     Governor John Hickenlooper is scheduled to sign a bill into law at noon Saturday at the grand opening of Elevation Brew Company in Poncha Springs.
     Hickenlooper did not say which bill he will sign.
     The Governor will speak briefly starting at noon.

Pedal Faster


     Mountain Bike racing returns to Salida with the second annual Riverside Rampage Saturday and Sunday.
     The Riverside Rampage is the first event of the racing season in the Mountain States Cup Championship series.

     The Rockies got a win.  The Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks last night 6-1.

MacDonald Officially Named Administrator


     In a 5-1 vote Salida City Council appointed Dara MacDonald to the position of city administrator during their regular meeting last night.
     Councilman Mike Bowers voted no.  There was no discussion.
     MacDonald has been acting administrator since October and has worked for the city since 2005.
    

More Pot Shops On The Way


     During the city council work session yesterday, MacDonald reminded Councilmen that the medical marijuana moratorium expires June 30.
     Expiration of the moratorium will allow new dispensaries to open within the city limits.
     At one time there were six dispensaries in Salida, now only two remain.

Deadline To Register


     May 29 is the last day to register to vote in the June 26 mail ballot primary election.
     Registration is available at any Chaffee County post office, any city or town municipal offices.
     Ballots will be mailed to all registered Democratic, Republican and American Constitution Party voters by June 4.

Dig In Boys


     Monarch Mountain has broken ground on a lodge expansion project.
     The $2.2 million project will add 16,000 square feet to the existing lodge and is expected to be complete before the start of the 2012-13 season.

     The slumping Rockies face the Giants again tonight.  The Rockies have lost 12 of their last 15 games.
